When you perceive stress the brain initiates the sympathetic “fight or flight” response, increasing heart rate, blood pressure and cortisol. HRV, a key marker of nervous system flexibility, becomes irregular.

Because the heart continuously sends signals back to the brain via the vagus nerve, these erratic heart rhythms amplify and reinforce anxiety, impairing clarity, judgement, emotional control, and reduce clear rational thinking.
